I’m going to try saying some crazy things to you, and you listen crazily—how about it? - Zuangzi
Borrowed words are one of my favorite parts of spending time in other countries. When I was in Istanbul in high school, I loved the Turkishized version of cabs: taksi.
you’d love Japanese then! there’s so much (occasionally bizarre) English it’s ridiculous sometimes.
for example….
rirakkusu taimu - a relaxing time
takusi - taxi
persacon - laptop (personal computer)
conbini - convenience store

South Mountain, Tempe, Arizona. final resting place of my grandfather.
currently on my way back to the East Coast (yay for AirTran free in-flight wifi). despite having been in Arizona for a funeral, I have to say that it was one of the nicest family trips I have ever been on. we’re counting that as one last gift from grandpa.

bein’ touristy at Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans’ French Quarter.
I had the kind of epic weekend there (two weekends ago) that a person can probably only survive once and probably only have in a place like N’awlins. did all the touristy things and enjoyed them more than I normally do. the architecture and gardens of the French Quarter were just so gorgeous I didn’t care that the shops were full of tacky crap and tourists. (the hotel we stayed in the first two nights was… omg.) but also hoping to go back in a couple months and do some less-touristy-stuff and see some more of the city.
