love this movie. love this story.Claudette didn’t want to do the famous skirt-lifting leg-flash hitchhike scene. After refusing, Columbia hired a chorus girl to do the scene. This infuriated Claudette, who insisted that the chorus girl be thrown out. She did the scene herself, and according to Robert Osborne, after this her legs became ~famous~ in Hollywood.
She also refused to go to the Academy Awards that year because she was sure she wouldn’t win, and she had planned a vacation. The train hadn’t left yet when it was announced that she won, and Harry Cohn, chief of Paramount, sent someone to get her off the train and take her to the ceremony wearing a two-piece traveling suit.
